I am proud of Zeb for the work he does coaching Boys & Girls Club baseball for a number of reasons. For one thing, he has learned his fair share being the husband of an Athletic Trainer. He is very responsible when it comes to injuries and the kids on his team. He always listens to them when they say they are hurting. He never does that guilt trip coach thing where they tell the kids to just toughen up and deal with it. He only lets his pitchers throw fastballs, because he knows that at this age their arms probably aren't ready to handle the stresses of all the various pitches. (He even looked up a position statement on the NATA website to see what it said about what age kids should be allowed to start throwing a curve ball - on his own, I didn't tell him anything) But the other night, when he wrapped a package of frozen sausage links on his sore knee, I couldn't help but think this guy is out of his mind. I won't deny that I've suggested athletes use frozen peas for icing before...but SAUSAGE LINKS!? Hey, whatever works.
So I decided to jot down notes again during the finale, this post is going to be kind of a stream of conciousness type format, it will probably be either really annoying, or you'll laugh because you were thinking some of the same things while watching this episode. Here goes nothing...Headset Joke on Dwight.....awesome, a true Jim & Pam throwback prank....."If the Devil were to explode, what kind of celebration would you have"..........Michael's sock money, first of all ewww, second of all - the lengths that he is going to for the ultimate Toby send off are hilarious...... Phyllis!! Yes, love to see Phyllis get her chance to show up Angela......Okay, looks like Pam is only going to New York for the summer while the show is off air. I approve. Good job writers......"Sell her an elevator pass".........Kevin is "slow in the head", I bet you could go back to past episodes with this premise and it would work, think Kevin's Kool-Aid Face........Toby stop hitting on Pam!!!.....Ryan the Temp sucks........I need songs that will work on 2 levels - "Welcome to Scranton" & "I Love You".............Jim's love pep-talk, aawwww, cute..........Oohhhhh no, i smell a proposal coming. Fireworks!.......I was right!.........Steve Carrell on SNL, that should be funny, note to self, watch SNL this week..........."This is a button" Kevin is killing me, how long can he pull this off?........Captain Brusin'.........Ryan The Temp gets arrested! "The real crime I think, was the beard".........."There is a racoon in the car!" but don't worry because it's not rabid........."Beers In Heaven" & "Total Eclipse of the Fart" it is criminal to provide a reference to these songs and not show us the actual performance........JAN IS KNOCKED UP. as Zeb said..."OH SNAP"........Okay, but I bet it is Hunter's baby.........Yes! I am so on point......."You cheated on me, when I specifically asked you not to?".......Okay, so I was pretty close though. I think it would have been funnier if it were Hunter's......She should have given Michael a shot though.........Jim is so cute and nervous right now..........Noooooo!!!......Oohhh, poor Dwight & Jim. Now I am getting all the foreshadowing of how Jim & Pam had all their first important relationship moments at the office, so it was only right to propose there...and now, damn it! Andy ruined it!.......Poor Pam.....Stanley is KILLING me.......Michael & Jan again? No way, but she did seem a little bit chilled out.......Oh what!? (in reference to Dwight & Angela gettin' it at the Office)
Overall I really enjoyed this episode, for me it seemed like it took almost the whole season to build back up to this episode. Comment away!
Hey guys, yeah, I'm back. You know, it almost became another long blog sabatical, but I remembered that I had a taken a new picture of Charles and his precious new Cactus, "Francis."
Softball is officially over, which is great news, and kind of crappy news all at the same time. I'm excited for it to be over, to finally have weekends and to get a chance to start fresh with my team. On the other hand, the fact that the season is over means that the team had an extraordinarily shitty season - so you know...six one way, a half dozen the other.....when in rome.....
Anyway, back to Charles and his cactus. After dinner on Friday, Charles ended up staying in Corvallis and hanging out with me. Zeb had to work late at Home Depot, so we decided to roll out there and check him out in his new element and also pick up some mother's day presents. The cactus was definitely an impulse buy for Char, but according to him, he's been waiting a long time to name something "Francis", so maybe it was a long time in coming. We spent the rest of the evening discussing the high points of the new Atmosphere CD (Charles actually appreciates my taste in music, which is more than I can say for most of you people!!!) and watching old episodes of "The Dog Whisperer." Bro/Sis bonding at it's finest.
A few random points:
Happy Birthday Moma! Love you!!
I searched long and hard to find the perfect Bruce clip, and for me, this one shows exactly what Bruce is all about! First of all, whenever you get a chance just look at the crowd. They are going nuts begining to end. It is entertainment in itself to see people react to his show, it is impossible not to be rocked. Second, has one man ever single handedly made a tamborine and a saxaphone so damn cool? I don't think so. Clarence Clemens is a legend. Period. Third, when they get the entire arena going, humming that melody, it is contagious. I can hardly explain it, and I'm sure Mom will vouch for me, the only way I can think to put it is that it is totally and completely consuming. Keep you eyes out for the signature Badlands fist pump. This 9 man band keeps tens of thousands of people simultaneously on the edges of their seats....wait...theres not a damn person in their seat...but you get the idea. They make the audience go until they can't go anymore - and then they transition right into the next song. Ahhhh, I wish I could drag each and every person I know to a Springsteen concert, then you would know what I'm talking about.
Most of the time when I watch "The Office" I crack up the entire time, but when it gets to the end and I go to blog about it, I can't remember a damn thing that I thought was funny, usually I can eventually come up with a few comments, but this week I decided to take some quick notes during the episode. The following is what I came up with. My additional comments after the fact are in italics.
My dad caught a big fish yesterday. There's not really a big story about this one, but for some reason I think this big fish is kinda cool. Too bad I don't have patience for fishing, but it does seem like it would be fun to reel one of these guys in. Sometime we should get the whole crew together and go deep sea fishing at the coast. That'd be fun, and if we get bored with the fishing we can always just bullshit each other.
Night Out:Toby is moving to Costa Rica?!
Did I Stutter?
This one kept me a little bit perplexed. The Stanley/Michael confrontation made the majority of the episode feel a little bit awkward. Although I will say that I felt proud of Michael for standing up for himself at the end, and I think he did earn just a little bit of Stanley's respect. Jim's hair continues to look oddly disheveled. LOVED Dwight's Emergency Plan chain of command & the fact that somehow Michael manages to stay strong enough and not relinqish control!

JOB FAIR 9/8c TV-PG 05.08.2008
Jim (John Krasinski) hits the links with Andy (Ed Helms) and Kevin (Brian Baumgartner) to try and land his biggest client ever. Meanwhile, Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) sets up a booth at a local job fair, which happens to be at Pam's (Jenna Fischer) alma mater, to find "the best and the brightest" for Dunder Mifflin's summer internship. Rainn Wilson, B.J. Novak, Leslie David Baker, Angela Kinsey, Creed Bratton, Oscar Nunez, Kate Flannery, Mindy Kaling, Paul Lieberstein, Phyllis Smith and Craig Robinson also star.
Later: Damon reads over this blog on his blackberry and laughs to himself. When I ask him what he's laughing about (thinking hes laughing at something I had written,) He says, "Oh nothing, just reminicing about 20 minutes ago." They think they're so funny.
Also, Let it be known that Zeb finds question # 2 to be leading and "squewed" (I'm pretty sure thats a fancy term he picked up in his speech class) He requests that question # 2 be read as follows: "Even if you did know what the 5 hole was would you find it unbearably hilarious if you ran across another person with the same baseball knowledge as Heather who did not know what it was?"

You can read the back he offered.....had I mistakenly looked interested in his unsolicited recommendation?
Victor Mancini, a medical-school dropout, is an antihero for our deranged times. Needing to pay elder care for his mother, Victor has devised an ingenious scam: he pretends to choke on pieces of food while dining in upscale restaurants. He then allows himself to be “saved” by fellow patrons who, feeling responsible for Victor’s life, go on to send checks to support him. When he’s not pulling this stunt, Victor cruises sexual addiction recovery workshops for action, visits his addled mom, and spends his days working at a colonial theme park. His creator, Chuck Palahniuk, is the visionary we need and the satirist we deserve.
What the hell is this? "Oh, and another good book I read, its about supermodel who has her face mutilated and she has to wear a viel everywhere she goes..." quickly switching on the airplane intercom he seamlessly transitioned into the airplane safety equipment speech with barely a breath in between. "In the event of a water landing a flotation device is located under your seat cushion."
As I pondered the randomness of the previous 10 minutes a man came down the aisle and took his seat, stowing a cat in a carrier under the seat in front of him! Perfect. Over the course of the quick 40 min. trip from Tucson to Phoenix the flight attendant established himself as one of those people who is the world's leading authority on EVERYTHING. And I started to suspect that he was also possibly a pathological liar. For the sake of brevity I will include in outline format the rest of the fun facts I learned about the flight attendant over the course of the flight.
And if all this wasn't enough...then there was the cat. Finally we landed in Phoenix and the cat stored under the seat across the aisle wasn't too happy. He took to meowing loudly and attracted the attention of all the girls in the area. A few of them asked the man if he could take the cat out of it's carrier so that they could pet it. He politely declined, stating that the airlines did not allow him to have the cat out of it's carrier. But of course the flight attendant interjected "Oh, you can take him out...its okay.....although, I did have a ferret escape on one of my flights once."
So the man pulled the cat out...Samson was his name, and come to find out he was a bit of cat royalty. Apparently this cat was a big deal in the world of show cats, ranked The 12th cat in the world and the #1 RagDoll cat in the world. Now I don't know much about cat rankings, but this seemed pretty impressive.
We all oohhhhed and awwwwed for a little while as the plane slowly emptied. It came our turn to file off and so ended the pound for pound most eventful plane flight of my entire life.
For anyone who doesn't know: Emily once caught a ball at a baseball game that Ryan Klesko threw to her. No matter what happens - there will ALWAYS be Ryan Klesko.Klesko retiring from majors after 16-year career, agent says
IRVINE, Calif. -- Ryan Klesko is retiring after 16 seasons in the major leagues, agent Joe Sambito said Friday.
Klesko, an All-Star in 2001 with San Diego, hit .260 last season with six homers and 44 RBIs in 362 at-bats for the San Francisco Giants. He played in only six games the previous year for the Padres because of shoulder surgery. The 36-year-old became a free agent following the World Series and didn't sign.
For his career, Klesko batted .279 with 278 homers and 987 RBIs. His best season was 2001, when he hit .286 with 30 homers and 113 RBIs.
He spent seven seasons with San Diego after playing his first eight years in the big leagues with the Atlanta Braves.
The news of Klesko's retirement comes after a February report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in which Klesko told his former Braves' teammate Chipper Jones he was opting for retirement. Jones and Klesko played together in Atlanta from 1993-99.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the Boston Red Sox were believed to have some interest in Klesko before signing Sean Casey to a one-year deal on Feb. 5.
Warning: The images you are seeing are not from Montana. This is Oregon. Oregon in mid-April. Oh What? This has to be some kind of a record. I have never ever seen snow actually stick in Oregon this late in the year. So much for Global Warming.
So it did snow, but really? It wasn't really on the roads, yeah, there was a little bit of slush, but really not enough to cause problems. And we see this big truck that drove into a guard rail in the narrows. Sheesh. This guy has no business getting in a wreck. Give me a break!
My office filled up with 300 (give or take a few that popped) orange balloons. They had actually taken the time to write on each balloon a reason that I should stay or a funny inside joke or saying among the staff.
Naturally since one of the Grad Students was a big "The Office" fan, a few nods to the show were involved.
Well, I carefully read each one and popped them all that morning. I think the girls were a little bit disappointed that i popped them so quickly, because they felt it necessary to provide an encore performance the next morning.
So on Tuesday I decided to give them a little bit of satisfaction (I really didn't want to have an office filled with balloons for the third day running) So I ended up leaving the balloons as long as I could tolerate them. The rule was, if a balloon made its way out of the office it had to be popped, they ones that stayed in could live. I packed up my book shelves and most of my desk all the time working around the balloons. The girls accused me of trying to kick balloons out of the office so that they could be popped. I made it until just after lunch time when I started feeling a little chlostrophobic and staticy and popped them all and went on with my day.
As much as I complained to the girls about and and acted like I hated it, it was a really cute prank, and it did make me feel like I would be missed. It will definitely be something that I won't forget soon.
Well, what to say? There was a lot of build up, and somehow it didn't quite match my expectations. There were definitely funny parts, but all in all I think my take away message is "Get back to the office!!!" The show started out about those crazy office dynamics and the strange characters that every office inevitably has. The whole Jan & Michael relationship makes me really awkward & I'm over it. Michael Scott deserves better! But there were still some great moments, such as:What did you think?

NIGHT OUT 9/8c TV-PG 04.24.2008
Well is here one feature on the blog that I really have missed. This week I am on the road, so I am uncertain when I will get a chance to watch this week's episode. Worst case scenario I'll have Zeb DVR it and I'll watch when i get home on Sunday. Oh the drama! Anyway, without further delay, here is what you can look forward to on The Office this week:
Oh were to start? Last week, spring break for OSU, I spent on an extended road trip at UCLA and UW. It might seem like a random trip for the typically conveniently matched Pac-10. Due to the fact that neither USC or WSU have softball programs, their usual counterparts get matched as travel partners. Luckily my time in the Big Sky Conference prepared me for this type of madness (UCLA/UW you've got nothing on Northern Colorado/Northern Arizona!) So what does all of this have to do with a washer/dryer set outside of a cute little yellow beach house? Oh I'll get to that soon enough.
The next evening I got a chance to catch up with my Grandparents again. We walked around the Santa Monica pier and then went and got a great dinner at Gladstones - a fun seafood joint. Yes, those blurry figures below are us. We were forced to have the picture taken on my camera phone because the batteries died on Grandpa's camera. I think it was going to be really adorable too, darn it.
I failed to document my time in Seattle, but I can pretty much summarize the entire experience in one word. Freezing. Since when does it snow in the pacific northwest in late March???
Call it a little stress relief, call it whatever you want. This evening we hit up the old lakeshore lanes in Albany. We tried to go to Highland Bowl, but unfortunatly it was leauge night. No available lanes. Zeb beat us all & Damon taught bowling etiquette lessons which I was not very good at. Good stuff.
Recently it has come to my attention that the Benton County Courthouse hippies are breaking records. Apparently (according to Damon) they are they only protest group that has gathered every day since the war began in 2001. We may not all share their political views, but I think we can all appreciate their resolve, and take at least some sort of entertainment out of their clever signs. I know that on more than one occasion I have seen them protesting and thought....are they STILL doing this??
"...the daily vigil held by Corvallis peace activists outside the Benton County Courthouse that has happened every day since the U.S. invaded Afghanistan in 2001, and is the only such continuous protest in the country." (c) Corvallis Gazette Times
Check out the Corvallis Anti-War Vigil Website for more info on these persistent hippies.
Let's just let it suffice to say that my entire existence has become one huge Late Pass, so in an attempt to rectify the sad, sad, state of affairs, here is something I've been meaning to post for a while! A few weeks ago when i was down at a softball tournament in Fullerton, I got to see my Grandparents. I always feel lucky when i get a chance to catch up with them, and this time was no exception. A few of the girls on my team saw me talking to them before one of our games and asked me if they were my parents, which tickled them to no end. The girls also thought that they were adorable, I agree.Looking back, there were some great things about Bozeman, and of course, some things that we didn't enjoy so much. So without further delay, I give you:
BOZEMAN TOP-10
BOZEMAN NOT TOP-5
Well there you have it, a snapshot of my new office. Dwight has a prominent place on my desk, as it should be. We've been here for more than 2 weeks, but it still feels like we just got here. At least to me it does. There are still several unpacked boxes scattered around the apartment, and more decorations strewn on the floor than actually hung on the walls. It is a work in progress.
