Late Pass Wednesday: Fire Hydrant Fiasco Reinactment

Hey hey hey, yes it's Late Pass Wednesday again and this time we have a very special treat. Some of you may remember Zeb's Great Hydrant Fiasco of '07 that took place late last spring. While Emily & Chicken were here we were lucky enough to visit the site of the hydrolic mishap for a full reinactment. If you don't remember the story, check out this blog entry. I also thought that Zeb took the liberty to explain the whole situation somewhere in the comments, but I couldn't find it. If you want to hear the whole story, give him a call. He loves to tell it.

An Ode To Reggie Miller

I actually wrote a poem entitled "An Ode To Reggie Miller" in junior high, but I'll spare you all the details. Just read this article on espn.com.....too bad, I would have tuned into a few NBA games if Reggie came back.

Reggie Miller's comeback has ended before it began.

The former Indiana Pacers star and TNT hoops analyst has decided he won't make a comeback with the Boston Celtics or anyone else, according to The Indianapolis Star.

"That's it,'' he told The Star. "Physically, I know I could have done it. But mentally, when you do something like this, you've either got to be all in or all out. And I've decided I'm all out." Miller told the newspaper the decision came after two weeks of workouts designed to see how his body might react to the stress of an entire NBA season.

"Earlier [Thursday], I was ready to come back. I was going to do it. But then I flew back here, I thought about it, I talked to a lot of people, and honestly, most people told me I should come back," Miller said, according to the newspaper.

"Charles [Barkley], Mark [Jackson], Doug [Collins], they all said I should do it. And when I was back in Indy this week [for the Peyton Manning charity bowling event], people on the streets, they'd tell me to do it," Miller told the newspaper. "But as the day went on, I just realized I wasn't ready mentally to put myself through the grind again."

Miller, the NBA's all-time leader in 3-pointers, retired in 2005 after 18 seasons, all with the Pacers. But he considered a return when the Celtics picked up Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett and asked Miller if he was interested.

The answer is no, Miller told the Star.

"Please write, 'I will never, ever, ever try something like this again,'" he said laughing, according to the newspaper. "Any of the 30 teams in the NBA, if you're interested, please don't call."

The Ladies of The Fieldhouse Potluck

Yeaaaaah, so today we have the "Ladies of the Fieldhouse" potluck. Basically it's a potluck for all the women who work in the athletic department. I'm bringing a great old standard, my mom's tortilla wraps. Always yummy. But I'm EXpecially (I like when people prounouce it the way I just spelled it.) excited about this serving tray that I got. It's pretty simple, but also pretty cute. I like it.

Late Pass Wednesday: Air Show

Wow. I can't really even remember when we went to this air show. I think it was in July, but I know that it was during one of the hottest streaks of the summer. The Air Show is held out at the Airport and it got pretty miserable standing around on the blacktop with the sun beating down. We ended up leaving after only a few hours, but I would say that we definitely got our fill of planes.

Once again, as is often the case at public events in Bozeman, just a little too much patriotism here.

Restaurant Grudge Match

We really love to have friends come to visit out here in Montana, and Emily and Chicken were no expception. They road tripped it out here on their way to Yellowstone National Park and then Idaho. Unfortunatly, I had to work quite a bit while they were here, but it was still great to get to see them and for them to get to check out the town that we live in.

I had planned to make them some home cooked meals while they were here, but we ended up basically having a restaurant grudge match: Zeb's favorite Bozeman restaurant (Famous Dave's) one night VS. My favorite Bozeman restaurant (Montana Ale Works) the next night. We probably would have just gone out to dinner only one night, but we just couldn't agree on where to go. I personally still think that my pick was better, but everyone else was VERY impressed with the BBQ at Dave's. To each his own.

Seriously? A restaurant where Deer Antlers are the focal part of the decoration? And imagine, that you can't see the amazing cowboy style flannel shirt chair covers. Priceless. Zeb's choice, Famous Dave's - where else?

Oh, Oh Ohhhh, It's 'Magic'!

'Magic,' Bruce Springsteen's new studio recording and his first with the E Street Band in five years, is set for release by Columbia Records on October 2, 2007. Produced and mixed by Brendan O'Brien, the album features eleven new Springsteen songs and was recorded at Southern Tracks Recording Studio in Atlanta, GA.

'Magic' is the first new studio album by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band since 2002's GRAMMY Award-winning, multi-platinum, number one album 'The Rising' (Columbia Records), which was also produced by O'Brien.

Yup, thats right, a new Album by Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band. I am pretty riled up about this. Look forward to some more "Better Know The E-Street Band" features and pleanty of updates as a US and World Tour are announced.

Well, it looks like Buffalo just barely edged out Bison by one vote. But wait just a minute, contrary to popular vote, Bison seems to be the choice of "academia" (a.k.a. wikipedia) Maybe the world will never know.

Okay, so we never really established what the hell the difference is between Buffalo and Bison, but I was pretty excited to get a chance to see these guys close up. Definitely my Yellowstone highlight.
This guy was only about 10 feet from my car door & making this gnarly snorting sound....kind of the way Zeb sounds when he snores.
We came around the corner of a tiny two lane road, and there this guy was trucking down the other side of the road.

Old Faithful

So I know that it's been a while, but I'm finally getting around to posting the pictures from our trip to Yellowstone with Damon & Ali. It was a REALLY hot day and we did a whirlwind tour of the park, but it was still a lot of fun. Here is our collection of Geyser photographs, the first installation of our Yellowstone Series.

No really, I've just been really busy. Football and Volleyball started this week, and even though neither of them are technically my sport, it still causes me extra work. Emily and Chicken are visiting this week and I promise some good stories from the visit. I still owe you all pictures and stories from Damon's visit. And, in other big news, we got a plant. Increasing the tally of living things being sustained in our apartment to 4 (Zeb, Me, The Fish - Robinson, and The Plant - Fenway) Apparently plants need names?

Stevie Wonder will embark on his first tour in more than a decade later this month. The 13-city “A Wonder Summer’s Night” tour launches Aug. 23 at Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay in San Diego, and wraps Sept. 20 at the Bank of America Pavilion in Boston.

Still More Rafting

Going....Going....Gagne

Just about the only big story of the MLB Trade Deadline is Eric Gagne being acquired by the Red Sox. Just another deal in a long tradition of what I call yankee/red sox "spite trading" Basically what happens is that one team (in this case the Red Sox) trades for or signs a player simply, and for no other reason than, because they don't want another team in the division (in this case the Yankees) to get said player. What the heck do the Red Sox need Eric Gagne for? They already have (and it pains me to say this) the best closer in the game today, and if there were any midseason weaknesses to be addressed, the pitching staff certainly wasn't one of them. The only way this trade makes sense to benefit the Sox is if they have Gagne penciled in to be the new power hitting shortstop. Seriously.

But you know what? All this Red Sox spite directed at the Yankees, I welcome it. This is what the whole rivalry is about. Doing things just to make the other team fume. I can only hope that on Aug. 28 when the Yankees and Red Sox meet again at Yankee Stadium they'll channel all this spite into a brawl. Because that is exactly what this rivalry needs.

More Rafting

Hilarity ensues after we attempt to flip the boat, only managing to flip ourselves. Our Guide Casey pulled Zeb back into the boat but did not expect the massive force generated as Zeb "dolphin kicked" himself back into the boat. Casey was then knocked on his ass. After he collected himself from the shock and awe of the dolphin kick, Emily was the next victim. Casey slung her in the boat like a salmon at the fish market, slamming her head first into the other side of the boat. At this point I was in hysterics and next in line to get slung into the boat. As quick as I was in the boat and sittting safely on the opposite edge, I was knocked into the water again by yes, you guessed it, an over zealous dolphin kick. Does this description even begin to do it justice? I doubt it, but I still go into uncontrolable laughter whenever I hear the words "dolphin kick".

If only we could have kept these booties. They make a real fashion statement.
